Burton on Trent are Gibraltar Cup Champions!

Burton on Trent are Gibraltar Cup Champions!

04/03/2013

Burton on Trent Royal Marines Cadets (RMC) have been crowned champions of the Gibraltar Cup 2012 after a tremendous 29 year wait, with only a 3 point separation between them and the second place team. With only 40 points separating all six detachments and those six being chosen out of 127 detachments across the UK this is an incredible victory for them.

The Teams had a kit inspection and a test on RMC General Knowledge Test Paper followed by first aid, map reading, observation/area search, command task, judging distance and rope and river crossing skills tests on the Saturday.  Sunday morning saw an early start with the commando slide, high obstacle course, assault course, 4x4 push and log carry.  Cadets were marked on behaviour, and performance during the tasks.

Detachment Commander Sgt (SCC) Sandra Sullivan was overjoyed at their win 'It’s probably going to go down as one of the best weekends of my life so far.  It was phenomenal and I could not be prouder of the eight cadets.'

Gibraltar Cup Comp Weekend Lands!

March 1 - 3 2013

Good luck to all Royal Marines Cadets (part of the Sea Cadets) who are taking part in this major annual competition to win the cup for the country’s best RMC detachment.

Held at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre at Lympstone, Devon, this is a tough two day course and great fun, where cadets get a chance to test their skill in map reading, field craft and team work. There are 117 detachments across the UK including the Falkland Islands and Malta with cadets aged between 13 and 18.

So this weekend we wish all of our Royal Marines Cadets and the volunteers that train and guide them the best of luck for a cracking weekend.
