Ruislip Sea Cadets meet the new First Sea Lord

Sea Cadets from Ruislip met the new First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir George Zambellas KCB DSC, at Northwood Headquarters on January 16.  MC Anderson, Cdt Beecroft and AC Major, along with volunteer, Lt Cdr (SCC) H Bridle, CEO Martin Coles and CSC Capt Mark Windsor RN had the opportunity to discuss Sea Cadets and all the amazing things the charity gets up to.

In a note after the visit Sir George said: '...I look forward to giving the MSSC whatever help I can in my new role.  You are all part of our future!'

Beccles Sea Cadets have donated an incredible £535 to the New Ship Appeal, after holding a fundraising dinner this weekend to raise vital funds for their unit which is in need of repair.

Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Mark Windsor RN who was at the dinner was surprised and pleased to see the Appeal video being played followed by an announcement that the raffle proceeds would go towards the Royalist replacement.

CSC said, after being handed the cheque, that it was 'really inspiring, just think if every unit raised this amount we would reach the target!'

Boat Station Boost Benefits North East Sea Cadets

Sea Cadets in the North East are celebrating after their boat station in Derwenthaugh Marina, Blaydon received a £50,000 cash boost towards building accommodation at the site Sport England's Inspired Facilities Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund.

Project coordinator, Victor Spong says 'The grant from Sport England is tremendous news for the the provision of water sport, especially for young people on Tyneside.'

Just an hour down the road, Guisborough Sea cadets are also celebrating, having secured £42,000 to upgrade their facilities, including a new boiler and disability access.

Sea Cadets sail with Olympians at London Boat...

Sea Cadets are at the London Boat show all this week. And on Friday cadets are on hand to help with the Olympic Gold Medalists racing on STAR class yachts, taking place dockside at Excel. Cadets are manning the safety boats and helping with the judging as 15 Olympians including Iain Percy, Andrew Simpson and Pippa Wilson compete in three special races.

Racing starts on Friday and continues till Sunday with three races taking place each day between 11am and 2pm. Winning presentations will be made by First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope with BBC’s Nick Knowles on Sunday at 230pm in the main hall and including London Navy Board Cadet Jessica Burton telling the audience what Sea Cadets means to her.

Visitors to the boat show at London’s Excel Centre can also see one of the original Trinity 500 craft which took part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant last year, when 55 Trinity 500’s manned by 200 Sea Cadets led HM The Queen’s Royal Barge up the Thames. ITV’s flagship daytime show This Morning  launches 'You Can Be Heroes Week' from Monday 7 January with the help of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and featuring the Sea Cadets alongside other Youth United organisations.

Kicking off the week is a special interview with The Prince of Wales at Clarence House, followed on Tuesday by footage of Sea Cadets at a Youth United event at Safeside in Birmingham. You can follow This Morning's updates here #TMHeroes
