February 2017 – District Drill and Piping...

The District Drill and Piping competition fell on Sunday 19th February and once again was held at RAF Halton and the unit attended with both competitors from both our Sea Cadets and Marine Cadets, all of whom have been learning routines for many weeks and preparing their uniforms. Our Sea Cadets sadly did not get through to the Area Competition this year but there were a lot of lessons learned that will allow them to come back even stronger next year. A special mention has to go to the combined Junior Unarmed Squad (Aylesbury & High Wycombe cadets) on coming first place, with JCFC Hannah Morgan being presented with a Sea Cadet polo shirt for being the best Junior Squad Commander.

Whilst the Sea Cadet competition was underway, in another area of the Drill sheds the Marine cadets were taking part in the 1 Troop Drill competition.  This year there were 3 entries – Milton Keynes, High Wycombe and Aylesbury.  Despite Aylesbury’s contingent just being a small squad this consisting of Cpl Medhurst, Cpl Wilson, Cpl Nicklin, L/Cpl St John and MC2 Nixon, they successfully gained a very credible 2nd place and will now join forces with cadets from Milton Keynes to represent the Troop at the Company Drill competition

Overall Results:

  •          Combined Junior Drill team (Aylesbury & High Wycombe) – 1st Place
  •          Colour Party – 3rd Place
  •          Senior Piping Team – 3rd Place
  •          RMCD Drill Squad - 2nd Place

‘Bravo Zulu’ to all who took part and a big thank you to the unit’s P&SA who once again ran the ‘Nutty bar’ and provided much needed refreshments to all the cadets and staff from across the District.

February 2017 – Junior Sleepover, Milton Keynes

Five Junior Cadets were invited to a sleep over with our friends at Milton Keynes Sea Cadets over the 13th and 14th February.  The Junior Cadets arrived at Milton Keynes on the Monday evening where they slept overnight at the unit and were introduced to their Junior Cadets. On the Tuesday the Cadets were up early for breakfast and to prepare their own lunch before heading out into Milton Keynes for a long day. First stop was a meeting with the Mayor where they all had the chance to put forward a question.  After this they were off to see the landmark sites of Milton Keynes which included the Point, Escape and of course the famous concrete cows. After a busy day they were treated to a nice pub dinner before joining Milton Keynes Sea Cadets for their parade night.  They were all collected at 21:30hrs, exhausted but having had great fun.  A big thank you to Milton Keynes Sea Cadets for having the sleepover and a big ‘Bravo Zulu’ to the Junior Cadets for taking part.

February 2017 - Royal British Legion...

On the 1st February 2017 a detachment of Cadets led by the XO, PO McCowan were invited to attended the Royal British Legion Aylesbury branch for a presentation of a trophy for being the Cadet force that raised the most amount of money for the 2016 Poppy Appeal. Cadets, Staff and Supporters of the Unit worked hard over the weekends leading up to Remembrance Day in 2016 and raised a staggering £2,118.87 for the Aylesbury branch of the Royal British Legion.  A very big ‘Bravo Zulu’ to everyone that gave up their time to support this very worthwhile charity and we look forward to trying to raise even more this year.
