A HUGE WELL DONE to the Open Boys and Open Girls crews that took place in the London Area Regatta today at Royal Victoria Docks. Both team work hard and show great team spirit leading them to second place in all 3 heats and 2nd Overall!

One of our Able Cadets has been selected to attend a Sea Cadet Aviation Course.

Just 12 candidates from the UK were selected to take part in a week long Aviation Course down in Weymouth. The candidates were selected via the application forms they had sent through, proving that they were qualified enough to be selected for the course.

Over the week the selected students underwent long hours and tough situations. On the first two days the twelve were taught lessons on such subjects as Air Law, parts of the aircraft, Air Trafficking Laws as well as being able to use flying simulations- giving them the chance to get to grip with what it is like to fly an aircraft.

On the Wednesday of the course the students adventured out on a trip down to RNAS Yeovilton, the busiest military airfield in the UK. They were shown around by the firefighting squadron there and were able to climb all around the fire engines and were shown how they worked. Six of the cadets were able to be passengers upon a Sea King and the other six Lynx (the fastest in the world) helicopter, flying up two at a time. They flew over Glastonbury Festival, circling above it, overwhelmed at the sheer size of the festival and even spotted some tents with live performances. After the flight, the Lynx hovered to the ground where the squadron made their way down the runway in a ‘Top Gun’ manor. It was truly amazing.

On the Thursday came the test to see whether all the information had sunk in over the last three days! A sixty question multiple choice test was taken and a flight simulation test consisting of a touchdown, stall and landing was flown too. Everyone on the course thankfully passed! As a result of everyone’s hard work, the cadets were granted a much needed shore leave.

The next morning was the latest they had gotten up that week, six o’clock. With their flight suits ironed and berets de-fluffed they formed a squad to be presented their Bronze wings. Many pictures were taken and hands were shook- and someone fell off a chair- and tears were shed in joy of passing the course. Our Able Cadet came fifth in her class, thus making it to the top six of her class, meaning that she has been selected to take part in the second course to earn her Silver Wings.
