Easter Fun Day

Easter Fun Day

Thank you to those that made the effort on Sunday, the weather was against us and rain stopped play.  Hard  work and not as lucrative as a bag pack but much more fun.  The most favoured event as always was 'Staff in Stocks', this gives cadets and staff alike the excuse to douse whomsoever they choose without the fear of discipline!

We raised a healthy £200 which will go towards the funds for the mini bus.

The Pride of the Continuity Squad

The Pride of the Continuity Squad

A huge 'Well done' to all the Cadets in Sherbourne's Continuity Squad and Able Cadet Cashmore (who stepped up to the plate to support Walsall Unit in the Unarmed Squad) Since January Cadets Slattery, Fox.K, Handley C, Rushton.R, Rushton.C, Newton.C, Ellis.H, Burley and Squad Commander Fox have given up their time and training to do little else but march. Despite setbacks, team changes, rainy nights and anything else that has been thrown their way, they square-bashed their way to the Area Competition at HMS Raleigh. Up to two hours before their slot, they were still practising. Ten minutes formation marching with no orders may not sound that hard, but you try it!

Not our year for the silverware this year and the team had their heads down after the awards. No need really though - the performance was excellent. The spectators clapping and cheering and relatives in tears after watching a truly memorable performance. Disco, a nights sleep and a Raleigh breakfast put that right!

All are up for another crack at it next year.

Well done guys and girls, hugely proud of you and enjoyed the roller coaster ride.  Need also to mention in despatches, those who assisted including District Staff, Sherbourne's Command Team, Unit Management Team, families, supporters and the RN Gunnery Association.

Marine Society & Sea Cadets - Annual Fund 2013/14

Sea Cadets Birmingham (Sherbourne) would like to thank Penny Wilkin from MSSC HQ for all her hard work over the years. We are delighted to announce the unit have been awarded grant funding from the Annual Fund towards improvements on board, firstly for partial refurbishment to the Mess Deck to make comfortable area for cadets at stand easy and during stop overs and to the heating on board  including the fitting of a new replacement boiler.  The award totalling £4,500 will make a big difference to the comfort on board and hopefully help reduce heating bills with a more efficient boiler.

South West Area Victory in the National...

South West Area Victory in the National...

We could not be prouder of the performance of our Junior Girls in the National Football Finals held at RAF Cranwell on Sunday 23rd February 2014.

Tia Williams, Celeste Newton and Sarah Fox shone in the competition made all the more challenging that some had only just returned from a gruelling week at HMS Raleigh on the National Band Course. The Junior girls team made up of both Sherbourne and Vernon Units stormed through the fixtures winning 4-0, 3-0, drawing 2-2 and a semi final clocking up 5-0 to secure their place in the final, draw 2-2 and take it to the wire on penalties, finally winning by 3 goals to 2.

Well done girls!
