On Friday 21 October and Saturday 22 October Chichester Harbour and Selsey Sea Cadets will be outside Chichester Festival Theatre for both the matinee and evening performances of Sweeney Todd. We will be collecting for our canoe storage fund so our canoes and kayaks are safe following the recent break in and theft.

Natwest Community Force Fund 2011

We have applied to the Natwest Community Fund to rasie funds for the development of a parade ground with mast and improved disabled access to our building.

Having gained planning approval for the parade ground and mast we are seeking to create a hard standing at the rear of the building to allow for ceremonial practice for formal events and public parades.  It will allow us to have enough space to parade the ship's company and have space for parents and visitors be able to be present to witness important ceremonial events.

At the same time we will be able to improve the disabled access at the rear of the building by creating a ramp throuh the rear doors where there are currently uneven steps.

As a result of our recent burglary we will now also use this hard standing as the access point to create a secure storage facility for the kayaks and canoes (subject to planning permission)

Canoe Burglary

Canoe Burglary

Cadets enjoy the new Open CanoesIn the early morning of Thursday 1st September 2011 thieves broke in to the unit by cutting a hole in the fence and stole 3 open canoes and 2 Kayaks from the trailers they were padlocked to.  The cadets were particularly dissapointed as one of the open canoes had only been received by the unit 1 week earlier thanks to the kind offer of support from Chichester City Council and The Coonaught Drill Hall Trust.

As a result we will now have to make a claim from the insurance and the boats have had to be secured away in a MOD compound and the cadets will be unable to go boating for the time being.

We are now looking at secure storeage on site to be able to return the boats to the unit where they can be used by the cadets once again.
