Trafalgar Parade

Trafalgar Parade

"England expects that every man will do his duty" was a signal sent by Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy Horatio Nelson from his flagship HMS Victory as the Battle of Trafalgar was about to commence on 21 October 1805

This Sunday paraded in Chesterfield in the Notts & Derby District Sea Cadets Trafalgar Day Parade to commemorate this decisive victory and key part of our naval history.

💥 And what a fantastic day it was, with over 150 cadets and uniformed instructors parading from across the District 💥

Our Officer in Charge, Sub Lieutenant Edwards, said:

"I couldn't be prouder of our cadets today. Each one of you upheld the highest standards of the unit and the Sea Cadets. It was an honour and a privilege to march with you all today"

He also said:

"I would like to give special thanks to my amazing team of volunteers, without whom events like this wouldn't be possible. I'd like to personally thanks Petty Officers Duffy and Lunn for volunteering to take up roles in the Guard of Honour, and PO Smith for being a fantastic minibus driver. We're always on the lookout for more enthusiastic people to join our team, if you're interested get in touch"

In July, T.S Kenya celebrated its 80th anniversary! In tradition, the youngest member of the ship’s company along with the unit president, cut the cake to celebrate the day. Staff and cadets were also awarded certificates to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Derby Sea Cadets first opened over 80 years ago in 1942!

This last week Cadets Higgins and Johnson, along with our OiC SLt Edwards, attended the Inter-service Cadet Rifle Competition at Bisley in Pirbright.

Whilst the competition itself was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, the cadets were treated to 4 full days of fullbore rifle shooting and marksmanship training.

Check out the photos of the weeks training and Sea National Competition below!

If you are interested in Fullbore Rifle Shooting speak to the Training Officer for details.

(Please Note: Cadets are taught weapon handling skills as part of a structured programme of supervised training that emphasises safe and responsible use)
