Video of Derby Sea Cadets Trafalgar Day Parade 2014
Every year, the Royal Navy celebrates Britain's famous victory over the combined French and Spanish fleet at Cape Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. The battle had massive repercussions for Napoleon's France and the future of the British Empire.
The Battle of Trafalgar made Lord Horatio Nelson one of Britain's most famous war heroes. As Admiral in the Navy, he led the British fleet to victory.
Around 200 sea cadets from nine units marched through the city centre and on to Derby Cathedral, where a service was held to commemorate the victory. Among those in attendance was the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Shiraz Khan, and the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, David Coleman. A number of high-ranking Naval officers also attended the event yesterday.
Following the service, the cadets marched back to The Spot, where the parade started.
The Derby sea cadets are affiliated with the Naval Submarine HMS Ambush. Two serving Submariners attended and spoke about life at sea.
