RNPT - 8th July 2008

Our Unit was asked to send a few cadets to attend the Royal Navy Presentation Team (RNPT) evening held at the Falmouth Hotel on the 8th July.  The evening involved our cadets lining the entrance hall to the hotel to welcome influential guests from the Falmouth area, and escorting them to the room ready for the presentation. It was aimed at making people aware of the current role of the Royal Navy, and dispelling a few myths.

YSS Stage 1 Sailing Course 5th/6th & 12th/13th...

We held dingy sailing training for our Junior Cadets (10-12 years old) for the YSS Stage 1 qualification. The course took place over two consecutive weekends, and although the weather was pretty poor on the first weekend, it meant that the theory could be covered in detail. The second weekend blessed us with perfect weather, and after assessment by Falmouth School of Sailing, all the Stage 1 Juniors achieved the qualification. They were assisted in the Picos by senior cadets, who kindly volunteered to help, under the watchful eye of the staff. One Junior achieved his YSS Stage 2. Well done to all.

BSAC Ocean Diver Weekend - 28th/29th June 2008

Four of our cadets undertook the BSAC Ocean Diver course over the weekend of the 28/29th June, with the Saturday spent studying hard at the unit and the Sunday spent in diving pool at Carn Brea putting the theory into practise. The next stage is to undertake a few dives in the sea on the 16th/17th August, and if all goes well we will have four qualified divers among our cadets!

OiC resigns - June 2008

OiC resigns - June 2008

Officer In Charge CPO Dave Pett will be leaving the Unit on 25 June 2008.
He took charge of the Unit when it was threatened with closure by the Corps, with just 11 cadets, in November 2005. By January 2008 he was presented with the "Best Unit in Cornwall" trophy with 40+ cadets at the Unit, who regularly attend courses. Under his command the Unit also received the first Pennant for many years. His professionalism and commitment to the Unit and its Cadets will be sadly missed. We wish him well.
The role of OiC of the Unit will now fall to PO Richard Jorey, who use to be the First Lieutenant. Richard has been in the Sea Cadets since he joined as a Junior, and therefore should be able to build on the excellent work of Dave Pett.
