Recently a Sea Cadet from Fishguard attended the Bronze Wings Flying Course, the course is Hosted at Sea Cadet Training Centre Weymouth, and the Practical at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton.
During the week long course Able Cadet Gus studied Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Navigation, Human Factors, Aviation Law and Radio Telephoney. They also learned about the history of the Fleet Air Arm.
At Yeovilton they flew in a Grob Tutor T1 Aircraft, which is what the Navy Pilots first learn to fly. Able Cadet Gus said “ Flying is amazing, especially in the Grob Tutor you can see all around and the earth looks completely different. Tim my Instructor taught me how to
Bank and I flew! Then came the aerobatics, we did loops and barrel rolls, which was really cool. I even did it myself, which is hard as you have to concentrate whilst upside down. Gus is the very First Cadet from Fishguard to attend the course and achieve his Bronze wings and hopes to go forward to the Silver Wings course in May, where they will be flying from Lee on Solent in Gosport.
WELL DONE GUS!
