Four of our Sea Cadets were invited to Buckingham Palace yesterday (19 May 2023) to receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award! 

They spent the afternoon celebrating their achievement of successfully completing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award with afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace.

Able Cadet Rosa, Able Cadet Naomi, Leading Cadet Amelia and Able Cadet Charlie (pictured left to right) were invited to spend the afternoon with the Duke of Edinburgh to reward their efforts of achieving their DofE Gold Award.

To successfully complete Gold DofE young people need to be aged 14-24yrs and complete a 12-month programme of volunteering, physical & skills and training for expeditions. The award is designed to develop communication, leadership and teamwork skills.

Achieving the Gold Award is an incredible commitment and one of the greatest achievements. 

We are very proud of these senior cadets as they should be very proud of themselves. 

We would like to say a big thank you to our volunteers too, for the commitment they make in supporting our cadets to succeed.

A massive thank you to Tesco Kettering who invited us into their store on Saturday 18 March 2023.

Cadets were on the tills lending customers a hand to pack their bags. It also gave us a chance to promote what the sea cadets do and invite those interested to come along to the unit and experience what is it like to a sea or marines cadet.

We’re very grateful for the generous donations that customers made which have allowied Kettering Sea and Marines Cadets to to raise over £1000 for the unit.

It was great for all of us to be out supporting in our local community.

800 NAS Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets host Royal Navy Commander, Richard De La Mare for their Royal Navy Inspection

Commander Del La Mare was welcomed by a guard of honour made up of five Royal Marine Cadets and piped 'on board' by a senior sea cadet. The ships company, a mix of 55 cadets and volunteer staff, were dressed in their No 1 Uniforms and waited in readiness to raise the unit's colours (flags) and to be inspected by the Commander.

Following the welcome and uniform inspections for each Division, including the 'Seafire' Division with junior cadets aged 10-12yrs, the Blue-Jacket Division with sea cadets aged 12-18yrs and the Royal Marine Cadet Division who are aged 13-18yrs, the evening's activities commenced.

Commander De La Mare RN, alongside VIPs Vice Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire Morcea Walker, Mayor of Kettering Cllr Keli Watts, and Cllr Alexander Evelyn got involved with the evenings training modules which included radio communications, band activities and making mini vortex cannons from paper cups and balloons.

Officer in Charge Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Adam Rowlands RNR explained: "It is great to be able to host these events again. It gives the cadets the chance to showcase their ongoing achievements and reward their commitment. It also allows parents, families and those who support us in the community to understand more about the Sea Cadet Corps and the pride we have in being closely connected to Royal Naval traditions."

A few of the cadets also had the honour of being awarded competency badges in sailing and rowing, plus their promotions by Commander Richard De La Mare.

Before the evening ended the Commander complimented all the cadets on their high standard of dress and recognised the pride they have in wearing the Royal Navy's uniform.

What an incredible day of talent, determination and great football!

Nearly 30 cadets from 800 NAS Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets entered the Northamptonshire District 5-a-side football competition, held in Sharnbrook Community Sports Centre in Bedford.

Teams of various ages were commended for being good humoured and for demonstrating great sportsmanship.

Kettering played well and brought home 3 of the 5 trophies after competing against other units from across the district, including Northampton and Ruston. The first place winners aged 12yrs+ go through to the Area 5-a-side tournament in January 2023.

The final results ended like this:
Juniors Team A (10-12 yrs) - 1st place
Juniors Team B (10-12 yrs) - Last place
Junior Boys' Team (12-14yrs) - 1st place
Junior Girls (12-14yrs) - 2nd place
Senior Girls - Last place
Senior Boys - 1st place

And our very own Marine Cadet, Marcella was named 'Player of the Day'.

800 NAS Sea and Royal Marine Cadets take part in Remembrance Parade 

A fitting Remembrance Parade in Kettering saw every division from our unit join other cadet forces in the annual march to cenotaph.

Rear Admiral Kyte, President of Kettering Sea Cadets inspected cadets in the Market Square before the parade commenced.

Northamptonshire District Officer and Commanding Officer of Kettering Sea and Royal Marine Cadets, Lieutenant Commander Pether was parade commander and the cadets did an excellent job representing the unit. Lieutenant Chris Jablonski also laid a wreath on behalf of the Kettering unit. 

We were among hundred of people to joined the event hosted by the Royal British Legion and remember the services and sacrifices of all those who defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
