ON GUARD!

ON GUARD!

Have you ever marveled at Errol Flynn or Johnny Depp as they defended their honor in an extravaganza of fancy swordsmanship?! Did you know, they both started by learning ‘fencing’? It’s a well know fact that most master swordsmen start off with a fencing foil as they are much safer than a hefty great blade. Well, 12 cadets from Middlesbrough Sea Cadets have been chosen to learn this ancient art.

P.O. Stamp has recently qualified as a Streets Swords Coach (fencing coach) and along with Commonwealth Champion Beth Davidson, he will be running a training night. The 12 Cadets will embark on a six week training course and at the end of the six weeks,  they will take part in a competition between them and a group from the Air Training Corp in Hartlepool.

Petty Officer Stamp also received his second good conduct stripe which means our First Lieutenant has been staff with us for six years.

Promotion Night happens every now and again and Cadets who have done their duty and excelled are rewarded. The question is, who will be stepping forward next time?!

ARMED FORCES DAY 2013

ARMED FORCES DAY 2013

Armed Forces day on Saturday 29th June 2013 was a roaring success. Middlesbrough Sea Cadets were out in force with many people stopping to ask questions about getting involved. Our Cadets put their best foot forward and got amongst the crowd, handing out stickers and leaflets, telling passers by about what we do and most importantly, telling them about the fun and adventure we have.

Middlesbrough Sea Cadets did a great job as part of the Combined Forces Parade around Centre Square in Middlesbrough, even in the heat of a very warm and sunny day.

ROWING FOR TS ROYALIST

ROWING FOR TS ROYALIST

Northern Area Officer, Captain Peter Adams RN (Rtd) had an unusual start to his morning on Friday 19th April 2013, when he was interviewed by Neil Green, live on BBC Radio Tees about the work of the Sea Cadets and our Rowathon fundraising event (pictured).

Over four days in April 2013, Sea Cadets based here in the North East, took part in a national campaign to row around the world in 80 hours in fact, we smashed the target of 24,900 miles and went on to row 27,300 miles. The purpose of the rowathon was to raise money so we can replace our iconic flagship, TS Royalist. Our training ship has been taking cadets on voyages since 1971 and every year she takes around 1500 cadets to sea - that’s 30,000 so far! A voyage on TS Royalist is open to all 14,000 Sea Cadets.

Whether it’s hoisting the sails in stormy weather or navigating big waves, nothing compares to the feeling of being out at sea, right there in the elements, taking on challenging nautical training and pulling together with other cadets to safely navigate Britain’s coastline. This is teamwork taken to another level.

Thank you to everyone who supported Middlesbrough Sea Cadets to reach our targets.
