Royal Marines Cadets Secured in Milford Haven!!

Royal Marines Cadets Secured in Milford Haven!!

Milford Haven Sea Cadets latest edition of the Royal Marines Cadets Detachment is officially here to stay!

During the last six months of its trial status; the detachment has had to go through a number of milestones in order to keep its detachment in Milford Haven!  After a very successful trial; with a detachment of 15 cadets currently; the Captain of the Sea Cadets was thrilled to endorse our application and officially form the Milford Haven Royal Marines Cadets Detachment!

Sub Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR, the Commanding Officer comments “This is a fantastic achievement for me and my team; especially as this is something brand new to West Wales, as our next detachment is in Newport, Gwent.  This achievement also goes to show the great support that we have had in its inception from various members of the Royal Marines Cadet hierarchy and the Town Council”

In order to join the Royal Marines Cadets you need to be 13 years old; however, if you fall just under the age bracket but wish to put your name down on a waiting list, until your closer to the mark then please come along and speak to the Staff.

Winner's Power Boat Handling!

Winner's Power Boat Handling!

Last weekend saw the South West Area Combined Regatta.  The competition was held at Bristol Adventure Sea Cadets.

Milford Haven Sea Cadets had fierce competition from another eight Districts in the Rowing Boat Handling and the Power Boat Handling and Kayaking categories that we had won at District Competition.

Boat Handling competitions are based around skills whilst in a boat, manoeuvres such as Man Overboard Drills, Towing Boats, Turning 360*, coming along side, anchoring etc.

The Powerboat Handling Team walked away for the first time in the existence of the competitions as the Winner’s, the Row Boat Handling Team came a very close Second and the Kayaker’s all had Gold or Silver Medals.

Sub Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR, the Commanding Officer comments “I am always rightfully proud of my cadets and their achievements in competitions; to be able to say that all of my cadets that went came back with a medal is fantastic and goes to show how much commitment they have.”.

Good Luck to the Power Boat Handling Team at the National Competition in London during September.

Rotary Club Support

On the evening of Tuesday 3rd July President John Broughton of The Rotary Club of Milford Haven attended the regular training session of the Sea Cadets in Milford Haven.

John presented a cheque for £300 to support places for cadets on the Training Ship Royalist during the first week of August, when it travels from Cherbourg (France) to Dartmouth.

John said that the local Rotary Club is proud to continue its association with Milford Haven Sea Cadets, where cadets from 10 to 18 years old learn vital life skills like leadership and team working via nautical adventure activities.

He noted the unit’s success in recent regional competitions where their skills in areas such as sailing, windsurfing, power boat and rowing boat handling have been tested. For those who will progress to area competitions, and particularly to the four cadets who make up the First Aid Team which will move forward to represent the Welsh Sea Cadets at Sandhurst in October, John wished them all further success.

A BIG Thank You to the Rotary Club of Milford Haven from all at Milford Haven Sea Cadets!
