Congratulations to our new Commanding Officer PO Jenny Orchard! PO Orchard joined Sea Cadets as a Probationary Civilian Instructor on 28 October 2010, became an Acting Petty Officer 12 months later and then a Petty Officer on 24 September 2012. NEWCASTLE EAST SEA CADETS NOW AT WALKER...

NEWCASTLE EAST SEA CADETS NOW AT WALKER...

As of Wednesday 22 April 2015, Newcastle East Sea Cadets will be parading every Monday and Wednesday evenings from 18.30-20.30 at Walker Technology College. The College boasts an array of fantastic facilities which will enable us to help our cadets get that great head start in life! As ever, our evening parade nights are open to anyone aged between 10-18 years old.

From September 2015, pupils of Walker Technology College will also have the opportunity to accrue a BTEC qualification within the school curriculum by studying the Newcastle East Sea Cadet Training Programme. We understand this is the first school in the UK to offer this to its students.

We are delighted to be involved in this innovative opportunity and are excited about the next chapter of Newcastle East Sea Cadets.

NATIONAL ARBORETUM VISIT

NATIONAL ARBORETUM VISIT

On 29 March 2015, we joined over 60 other cadets from units across our district to visit the National Arboretum Memorial in Staffordshire. The Arboretum has over 50,000 trees over 150 acres and 300 memorials. However, it is not a cemetery, more of a place of life where older and younger generations can wander and wonder! We had a fantastic day out and were pleased to track down the Royal Navy and Sea Cadet commemorations. Our thanks go to the District Officer who made it all possible.

There are many more photographs on our Facebook page which can be accessed by clicking the link on our home page - do take a look!

SEA CADET TRAINING CENTRE GETS ROYAL SEAL OF...

The Admiral of the Sea Cadets, HRH The Duke of York opened a purpose built £650,000 Sea Cadet boating and residential centre on 3 December 2014 at Derwenthaugh Boat Station.

His Royal Highness was shown around the centre and Newcastle East Sea Cadets were among many of the regions cadets to show off their skills in a variety of seamanship, First Aid, horn pipe and cook steward displays.Accommodating up to 20 Sea Cadets and 10 volunteer instructors at any one time, the centre has already seen over 800 young people secure valuable boating qualifications since its completion in October 2013. The new accommodation block ensures Sea Cadets from across the country can undertake boating courseswithout the expense of daily travel, adding to the adventure of away from home training.

District Officer Lt Cmdr Alfie Simpson MBE RNR and Derwenthaugh Boat Station Principal said, “It was a great honour for us to receive our Admiral of the Corps, The Duke of York to officially open this magnificent facility and the Sea Cadets were overjoyed to be able to meet him and put on displays and performances. Boating is a fundamental aspect of the Sea Cadet experience and builds confidence, skills and qualifications. This is yet another fantastic example of how the Sea Cadets can benefit young people and make the difference to their future academic aspirations and employment prospects”.

TS ROYALIST'S FINAL VOYAGE

TS ROYALIST'S FINAL VOYAGE

Newcastle and Gateshead’s Quayside welcomed the Sea Cadets flagship TS Royalist to the River Tyne during the summer of 2014, before she continues to make her final circumnavigation of the UK. The 96 foot brig is due to retire after 43 years of faithful service after having taken over 30,000 cadets to sea where they have experienced the most exhilarating and unique set of challenges.

Roy Taylor, TS Royalist’s Sailing Master and Relief Commanding Officer said, “It is a pleasure to be on the River Tyne in what will be the very last time on TS Royalist. Voyages on TS Royalist are open to all 14,000 Sea Cadets but sailing is only a small part of what we do, our emphasis is on team work, communication, determination, leadership, responsibility, ownership for our own actions and of course a tremendous amount of fun. When Sea Cadets join us on TS Royalist, they do so on a level playing field and all have the same opportunity to excel in a supporting, encouraging and unique environment. Some cadets also secure valuable qualifications on board which give them a head start in life – we see this as a sound investment in our young people.”

Sea Cadets will welcome a new tall ship in 2015, which they have helped raise money for.
