Nottingham Sea Cadets have recently held their Royal Naval Parade – a massive biennial inspection where all the cadets showcase what they’ve achieved over the past 12 months.
On Thursday the 3rd March, Nottingham Sea Cadets played host to a variety of VIPs including the Lord Mayor, the High Sheriff of Nottingham, and the Commanding Officer of HMS Sherwood Cdr Rob Noble RN.
The evening began with a full ceremonial display from the cadets to formally open the event. The parade commander was MC1 Laurence, aged 16, who did extremely well commanding the deck for his first official time in charge.
This was followed by a short break after which the cadets put on a spectacular show entitled ‘We’ve Been Framed’. The cadets demonstrated all they’ve achieved in the last year by pretending to be part of popular TV shows.
For example, ‘Topper Gear’ was a section highlighting the exciting new sailing dinghy coming to the unit this summer, the RS Quest, and ‘Take Me Out’ to show off some of the brilliant courses cadets can attend at national Sea Cadet Training Centres.
The unit’s Royal Marines Cadets detachment also added in an excellent display of rifle drill movements set to ‘Uptown Funk’ – in the dark under a UV light.
After a huge musical finale starring a very brave AC Jade, aged 14, the inspecting officer Cdr Bagot-Jewitt RN DL applauded the efforts of all the cadets and staff, and a reception was held for the visitors.
Nottingham Sea Cadets hope to repeat their excellent performance this year with another 12 months of great achievements. Anyone wishing to get involved, whether cadets aged 10-18 or as adult volunteers aged 18+, should get in contact by email at nottinghamseacadets@live.co.uk.
