As well as offering activities linked directly to the sea cadets - the organisation is involved in other opportunities to gain skills for life. Cadets can study for BTEC diplomas and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award schemes. This weekend Nottingham had 4 of their senior cadets taking part in their practice walk for their silver Duke of Edinburgh award. Their final walk is planned for July. of E Bronze Award Badge

Adult Volunteers need training too!

As adult volunteers to the Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets the staff need training too. The Corps offers a comprehensive training program for new and experienced volunteer staff in order to ensure the cadets get comprehensive training by suitably skilled staff. This weekend staff from the Nottingham Unit attended Area training for Core Drill, RMC Field Craft, Adult Induction and the Armory Controllers course. Picture shows the Core Drill training group.

St George's Day Parade

St George's Day Parade

Lord Lieutenant's St George's day parade took place today in Nottingham City Center. Nottingham Sea Cadets joined other members of the District and Cadet Forces to celebrate. The parade moved from St Mary's Church Lace Market down toward the Market Square where the Lord Lieutenant John Peace addressed the parade in celebration of youth in Nottingham.

Swamp Testing Completed - ready to go boating!

This weekend saw a group of cadets and staff volunteers undertaking the annual boat swamp testing. This ensures our boats are safe to use during the boating season. Intriguingly it requires flooding the boats for a period of time to ensure they don't sink. All was successful which means our boating programme for the summer can commence into full swing and we can get the cadets out  onto the water - light permitting- on parade nights.

Swimathon!

On Saturday 14th March, 8 cadets and 2 members of staff swam as many lengths as they could for a charity swimathon.

The swimathon is organised by the Rotary Club and Sherwood Sunrisers, and half of the sponsorship money will come back directly to us.
