Row Around the World

Row Around the World

Sea Cadets from across the UK will be attempting to row the circumference of the world (24,900 miles) in 80 hours between 18 April and 21 April 2013, raising vital funds needed to help them replace their tallship TS Royalist.

Coinciding with an attempt by the Sea Cadet HQ team – who will be rowing a Trinity 500 along the canal network from Abingdon to the Thames – cadets from some of 400 UK units will be taking to rowing machines at approved British Rowing Clubs to help reach the target.

Nottingham is undertaking the challenge over the Saturday and Sunday (20th and 21st April) with a team of around 10-15 cadets and staff. We will be using a local rowing club to make use of their machines.

If you are interested in sponsoring any of the cadets for their efforts, please get in contact.

Advancement Board Successes

Advancement Board Successes

Nottingham Sea Cadets were hosts to a District Advancement Board in February where a selection of Notts and Derby District's cadets attended hoping for promotion. Nottingham sent 5 cadets on the board itself after the cadets had been training with A/SLt (SCC) Carter RNR and PO (SCC) J Hendry.

The cadets all worked incredibly hard, and we ended up with all 5 of our cadets passing successfully. Some even gained an Instructional Methods grade.

The cadets were:

LC Sarricchio

AC Twelves

AC Curzon

AC Vaites

AC Taylor

Well done all!

The detachment is being led by A/Sgt (SCC) Pete Rigley, with PCI (SCC) Josh West and PSgt (SCC) Greg Hendry instructing.

The next challenge will come this October where the detachment will attend the SRMO inspection, but before that they have XRay Coy Easter Camp to look forward to at the end of March.

Double Birthday!

Double Birthday!

We recently celebrated a double birthday - our CO SLt (SCC) A Crump RNR and Cadet Howbrook-West.

The Cook Steward class worked hard to prepare a delicious buffet for the Ship's Company, and A/SLt (SCC) R Carter RNR baked a rainbow birthday cake for everyone to share.

It was a lovely evening and the Cook Stewards did themselves proud. Thanks to PO (SCC) C Lilley and POC Palmer for organising and supervising the cadets.

£5000 winner!

£5000 winner!

Nottingham Sea Cadets were one of the two lucky winning organisations in Nottingham to win £5000 from Lloyds TSB Community Fund.

The Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund provides much needed funding to organisations working locally to inspire and support young people

Lloyds Banking Group colleagues nominated over 1400 organisations to be considered for the award. Only staff could put forward inspiring organisations. For each of the 66 Evening Celebration Sites of the Olympic, four projects from each community were shortlisted and profiled, giving them great exposure in their local community

Organisations worked over the Summer months to generate support from the public, who voted at the Evening Celebration events, online and via SMS. Over 200,000 members of the public showed their support by voting for the shortlisted organisations.

Two organisations from each of the 66 communities have been awarded £5,000 each
A total of £660,000 of funding has been awarded

Nottingham Sea Cadets will be using the funds to go towards a brand new shower block which will increase the level of our facilities for boating.

Thanks for voting!
