Our cadets recently visited the Mine Countermeasures Vessel HMS Brocklesby whilst she was alongside in Poole.

At 685 tonnes this 60 metre long vessel is not only tasked to seek out mines but she also undertakes duties as a coastal patrol vessel. 

Putting the crew's skills to good practice in 2003 she successfully cleared a mined channel into the port city of Umm Qasr in Sothern Iraq.

On Sunday 13th November Poole Sea Cadets paraded in both Poole and Ferndown for Remembrance Sunday. In sunny conditions our band led both commemorations to remember those who had given their lives as a result of conflict. Large and appreciative crowds were present at both events. The band are pictured in Poole Park.

Only a week to go until Remembrance Sunday on November 13th. We will be parading in Poole Park at the War Memorial in the morning and then the band will move to Ferndown in the afternoon to lead that town's commemorations.

Poole Sea Cadets were proud to support the official launch of Dorset’s 2022 County Poppy Appeal.

A large crowd attended the event which saw the Bournemouth Youth Marching Band lead a parade of cadets and scouts to the Barrington Centre in Ferndown.

There a formal ceremony of Remembrance was hosted by the Mayor of Ferndown, Councillor Lawrence Wilson, and Ferndown Royal British Legion. In attendance, and representing King Charles, was His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell.

The ceremony featured not only prayers, a bugler sounding The Last Post but also an explosion of thousands of scarlet poppies that showered all of those present.

Street collections started immediately after the ceremony and will continue up to and including Remembrance Sunday on November 13th.

Poole Sea Cadets held their AGM and Prize Giving recently and were able to reflect upon another successful year.

The prizes were presented by the Unit’s Patron, the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Tony Trent accompanied by the Sheriff of Poole, Councillor Mike Brooke. Our President, Rear Admiral Nick Lambert, RN (Retd), was also on hand to help guide proceedings.

The evening was held with the large audience sitting under lighting which didn’t have to tap into the national grid at all.

This reflected a big success story of the year which was the successful implementation of a solar panel scheme which our cadets named “Project Liquid Sun”. This was achieved through a successful grant bid to Low Carbon Dorset and as a result solar panels were installed which provide clean energy and feed battery storage - we are now already selling electricity back to the grid.

Poole Sea Cadets is the first Sea Cadet Unit in the country - out of more than 400 – to implement such a strategy and it is likely that many of these will now follow Poole’s example.

The substantial sum of money we have saved can now be spent on the cadet experience.

Achievements of all sorts including musical, sporting, seamanship and helping support the community were all highlighted.

During the year our 60 cadets achieved no less than 492 qualifications which is a huge endorsement not only of them but of our valued band of volunteer instructors.
