We did it again! - District Drill and Piping Competition

Eighteen cadets, aged 12 to 17, represented the unit at the annual Wessex District Drill competition, in the unarmed squad drill, the colour guard, and the team and individual piping categories.

Held aboard H.M.S. Sultan in Gosport, the teams competed against Cadets from Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury, Warsash, Winchester. All of the cadets are marked on the standard and cleanliness of their uniform and their personal drill and bearing, as well as the specialist aspects of the individual competitions.

In the unarmed squad drill the Cadets have to do a ten minute synchronised marching routine, whilst staying in time with each other. The colour guard have to undertake the ceremonial aspects of carrying a colour or flag and the pipers have to demonstrate 4 different tunes played on a bosuns call or whistle, either individually or as part of a team.

This year Southampton managed to beat off stiff competition to  retain the Colour Party Trophy ,the individual piping and team piping. The unarmed team came second.

Commanding Officer,Lt. (SCC) Mark Lampert commented, "Our cadets never cease to amaze me with the amount of effort that they put in. This is only mirrored by their results. In all a first class result by a first class group of young people."

This means that these young people from all over Southampton will be representing Wessex District for the 10th year running at the southern England competition in the beginning of April.

We wish them luck!

Win at District Shooting Competition

A team from Southampton Sea Cadets triumphed over seven other teams from around Hampshire and Dorset to win the District .22 shooting competition held at Tipner Ranges in Portsmouth.

The team consisted of four cadets.

Commanding Officer Lt (SCC) Mark Lampert RNR, commented “This was an amazing result."

The Cadets shot on an indoor 25 metre range, under the strict supervision of qualified range conductors. The ability to hit targets at that distance requires complete calm and concentration from the Cadets as well as remembering the main principles of good marksmanship
whilst under pressure.

The team then went onto competing in the Southern Area competition at the end of January-
