Northern Area Officer, Captain Peter Adams RN (Rtd) had an unusual start to his morning on Friday 19th April 2013, when he was interviewed by Neil Green, live on BBC Radio Tees about the work of the Sea Cadets and our Rowathon fundrasing event.
Over four days in April 2013, Sea Cadets based here in the North East, took part in a national campaign to row around the world in 80 hours in fact, we smashed the target of 24,900 miles and went on to row 27,300 miles. The purpose of the rowathon was to raise money so we can replace our iconic flagship, TS Royalist. Our training ship has been taking cadets on voyages since 1971 and every year she takes around 1500 cadets to sea - that’s 30,000 so far! A voyage on TS Royalist is open to all 14,000 Sea Cadets and four members of the Seaham Sea Cadet Unit will enjoy the most exhilarating and unique set of challenges on TS Royalist in November 2013.
Whether it’s hoisting the sails in stormy weather or navigating big waves, nothing compares to the feeling of being out at sea, right there in the elements, taking on challenging nautical training and pulling together with other cadets to safely navigate Britain’s coastline. This is teamwork taken to another level.
Thank you to everyone who supported Stockton Sea Cadets reach our target.
