A HAPPY 157TH BIRTHDAY FOR SEA CADETS

A HAPPY 157TH BIRTHDAY FOR SEA CADETS

In June 2013,  Sea Cadets celebrated 157 years of giving young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.  Sea Cadets held  celebrations in 400 units in ports, cities, towns and villages across the UK.

Sea Cadets have had another great year and were honoured to receive HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award 2012 in recognition of the great work that Sea Cadets and our volunteers do. After escorting HM The Queen on her Royal Barge down the Thames in the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant last year, receiving this award was the icing on the cake!

Here's to another 157 years!

SEA CADETS LEAD HM THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY PARADE

Stockton Sea Cadets joined forces with Guisborough and East Cleveland Sea Cadets on Saturday 1st June and led the way with a public parade in Loftus to mark the 60th anniversary of HM The Queen’s coronation

Tim Clyburn, Commanding Officer of Stockton Sea Cadets said:

“I was thrilled our cadets were involved in this auspicious occasion and it was a wonderful opportunity for local people to see the ambassadors our Sea Cadets have become. The Sea Cadets offer young people adventure at sea and on land to instil within them qualities, such as self-confidence, commitment, loyalty and integrity which will provide them with the best possible head start in life, no matter what they choose to do. They were smartly dressed in their uniforms,  marching through our town and really were a sight to behold.

SEA CADETS ARE THE NEWS!

SEA CADETS ARE THE NEWS!

Northern Area Officer, Captain Peter Adams RN (Rtd) had an unusual start to his morning on Friday 19th April 2013, when he was interviewed by Neil Green, live on BBC Radio Tees about the work of the Sea Cadets and our Rowathon fundrasing event.

Over four days in April 2013, Sea Cadets based here in the North East, took part in a national campaign to row around the world in 80 hours in fact, we smashed the target of 24,900 miles and went on to row 27,300 miles. The purpose of the rowathon was to raise money so we can replace our iconic flagship, TS Royalist. Our training ship has been taking cadets on voyages since 1971 and every year she takes around 1500 cadets to sea - that’s 30,000 so far! A voyage on TS Royalist is open to all 14,000 Sea Cadets and four members of the Seaham Sea Cadet Unit will enjoy the most exhilarating and unique set of challenges on TS Royalist in November 2013.

Whether it’s hoisting the sails in stormy weather or navigating big waves, nothing compares to the feeling of being out at sea, right there in the elements, taking on challenging nautical training and pulling together with other cadets to safely navigate Britain’s coastline. This is teamwork taken to another level.

Thank you to everyone who supported Stockton Sea Cadets reach our target.
