Sea cadets from Thorne visited Ceres Division, the Royal Navy Reserve unit in Leeds and had a taste of life as a reservist.  Among the many activities which reservists get up to, one of the most ‘fun’ tasks for the cadets included putting on protective fire equipment and clothing and putting out a simulated fire on board a ship.

Thorne Sea Cadets and Doncaster Air Cadets joined the Doncaster Central Royal British Legion to mark the dedication of the new standard at Scarbrough Barracks in Doncaster.

Three cadets from Thorne, who had never learnt piping properly until only two weeks ago, have gone on to become the District Champions, with one of the cadets, Isabel Warren, winning the individual accolade of South Yorkshire District Piping Champion.  The unit also came second in the drill competition, having never previously entered the colour party drill competition before.

Isabel Warren, 12, Adam Bryars and Jennifer Cohen, both 14, have only been learning to play the pipe – which remains the Naval method of passing orders and information – over the last two weeks.  The colour party drill team included Kirsten Redmile, 17, Kyle Evens, Jack Hardmen, Jessica Caton, Jennifer Cohen, all 14.

Thorne Sea Cadets led the parade for the Remembrance Day Service in Thorne today which marked the World War One Centenary.  The unit represented the Sea Cadet Corps with a standard at the special service held in the Memorial Park before marching to a service at Thorne Church.  After the service the cadets put on a special dinner at the unit for Veterans.

Thorne Sea Cadets received a generous donation of £200 from HMS Ganges Association to help with its fundraising for new canoes and kayaks.
