Thorne Sea Cadets spent two nights camping out in Barlow Nature Reserve as part of one of the unit’s outdoor camps. The weekend camp saw all cadets enjoying a range of activities and exercises (both at night and day) including some fantastic evening camp fires (and even the odd scary ghost story or two!)
Thorne Sea Cadets were celebrating today with the arrival of a new Trinity rowing boat to add to their flotilla of boats. The cadets took to the water in the brand new Trinity 500 which is a light but very stable pulling boat, ideal for cadets to learn to handle themselves and the boat on the water.
Thorne Sea Cadets' Commanding Officer, Dave Redmile, has been awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate – an achievement recognised as one of the highest honours in the cadets, ranking just below the MBE. The certificate was presented to Petty Officer Redmile by Mr David Moody, Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, at a ceremony held at Endcliffe Hall, Sheffield, on 8th April, in recognition of his outstanding contribution and dedication to the Sea Cadet Corps.
Cadets from Thorne Sea Cadets joined the regional camp which this year was held at Scarborough. Here they’re pictured at Scarborough Castle, having just finished taking part with some juggling fire throwers!
