Commanding OFFICER

Lieutenant (SCC)

G T Bassett MSc RNR

A warm welcome to Training Ship Tormentor, Warsash Sea Cadets website. We are based at Warsash Maritime Academy Boat House, and I take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Lieutenant SCC Gary Bassett MSc RNR, you may have met me in my role as Deputy District Officer for Wessex District Sea Cadets and I also have the honour and pleasure of serving in Command with the help and support of the entire Team at Tormentor.

On a personal note I have been actively involved with Sea Cadets in various management and boatwork related roles for the past 25+ years. Having been a cadet myself I fully appreciate the opportunities, challenges and benefits we can offer in gaining that all important head start in life, for you and or your children aged between 10-18.

My primary role is to provide a safe and fun based learning environment for cadets and staff, within a nautical themed setting. This is all aimed for you and or your child to experience many nautical related activities and help them progress on their personal development journey. I look forward to hopefully meeting you sometime soon...so go on come and join us for some great opportunities to have Serious Fun.

Lord Lieutenant Cadet for year 2012

Lord Lieutenant Cadet for year 2012

Leading Cadet Leach attended the Great Hall in Winchester to receive her badge for Lord Lieutenant Cadet for year 2012
She will join 5 other cadets from all services in Hampshire. These Cadets accompany the Lord Lieutenant on various occasions, such as Royal Visits and Civic Ceremonies, acting as ADCs and assisting the Lord Lieutenant as necessary during theses occasions. They need to be smart, sensible, alert and display initiative – especially when sometimes things don’t always go according to plan.

Not only does this prestigious appointment serve to promote the Cadet Forces in the eyes of the public – and of course each cadet is the selected ambassador of his or her unit and Service – but it is also an excellent addition to the individual cadet’s personal CV.

In addition, these cadets have the opportunity to be involved in special occasions in the community. Therefore have access to life long learning experiences not available to others. It is a great privilege and they have earned it.
