Sea Cadet James from Devon District is a finalist for the St. John Ambulance Everyday Heros in association with the Mail on Sunday Guy Evans Young Hero of the Year award! The award celebrates inspiring first-aid achievements by ordinary individuals.

James saved the life of his 14 year-old sister when she collapsed with an epileptic fit on her way to school last September. He tells the Daily Mail that he was walking to school with his sister when suddenly she started shaking and shuddering. He didn’t know she was epileptic at that point, but the first aid training he'd done with Sea Cadets gave him the confidence and stopped him panicking. He pulled the hair she had swallowed, and checked to see if she was breathing. He then put her in the recovery position, blocked off the road with their school bags and ran to the nearest house to phone an ambulance. She made a full recovery!

The awards ceremony is hosted by St. John Ambulance presented by BBC presenter Tess Daly, which James will attend in London. Well done James!!
