District Drill Competition - 12th to 14th...

Between the 12th and 14th February 2010, the annual District Drill competition took place at HMS Raleigh, Torpoint. The weekend consisted of training on the Saturday where the team had the Southwest Area parade staff to train them, and the competition on the Sunday morning. Our Unit entered the Armed Drill event and came away with Best Guard, Best Dressed Guard and Best Guard Commander. Unfortunately there will be no Armed section at the Southwest Area Drill competition in March so, as there was no Unarmed Drill team at the District event, our team will now be representing Cornwall at the Area event in the Unarmed section. We would like to thank all the supporters that came up and supported the team.

Shooting Weekend - 13th to 15th November 2009

Over the weekend of 13th to 15th November, four of our cadets attended a shooting weekend at HMS Raleigh. The weekend was primarily aimed at cadets who had not been shooting before, and so began on the Saturday morning with lessons in how to safely handle the L98 rifle (a variant of the SA80). The Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning were used to allow the cadets to experience shooting the L98, along with the L81 sniper rifle over 25 metre and 100 metre ranges.

The Penryn Parade began in the town centre, marching to St Gluvias Church, while the Falmouth Parade began on the Moor, marching up to Kimberley Park. Thank you to all the cadets that took part in this important day in the Sea Cadet calendar.

Cornish Cruising Week - 25th to 30th October 2009

Cornish Cruising Week - 25th to 30th October 2009

During the Autumn half-term holidays, four cadets from our unit embarked on a yacht with Cornish Cruising for a week of sailing. During the week, they crewed and ran the yacht as their own, under the watchful eye of a Cornish Cruising instructor. Due to the weather, the cadets experience some rough seas during the journey to Fowey and back! A/C Townsend, O/C Roberts and Cdt Blackburn came away with their RYA Offshore Competent Crew qualification, and L/C Close qualified as a RYA Day Skipper. Well done to all.
