Congratulations to Lance corporal Connor Young who has been awarded the national trophy of the indefatigable shield for the Royal marine cadet who achieved the most boating qualifications throughout the country in 2011. The award was presented by North west area officer Lt Colonel J Davies RM, shortly before he took up his new position as area officer for South west area.

The unit undertook a busy weekend celebrating Her Majesty the Queens Diamond jubilee celebrations.

Not only was the ship dressed but the Duke of Edinburghs award teams were out progressing towards their expedition sections,

Whilst camping they held a very british afternoon tea party with tea, cakes and other treats!! The bronze group also had the pleasure of greeting

 scarecrows of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh while en route.

meanwhile other members of the unit supported the district

jubilee parade where we took part in the marching platoon as well as paraded our unit colour.

On monday we made time to have a fun day then back to buisness as usual with rowing training on the tuesday. 

The juniors also enjoyed a trip to Gullivers world as a jubilee treat!! 

Congratulations to LC Johnson who after many years of boating work within the unit has utilised all his skills gained to progress his boating qualifications.

Lc Johnson amongst other qualifications has achieved; Cadet rowing instructor, advanced RYA sailing qualifications, RYA powerboating qualifications and windsurfing qualifications.

He has now been awarded the highest honour of the master coxswains award by the commanding officer. The first the unit has seen in many years. Excellent achievement.  BZ

Congratulations are in order as the Commanding officer and AC Barratt attended a national training course at HMS Temeraire the Royal Navys school of Physical training. Their course was physically demanding they were active for 12 hours per day improving their fitness and instructional skills. The course is designed for all cadets and staff at intermediate level and above to enable them to qualify within the branch. Students must be immaculately turned out in their appearance and demonstrate a high level of fitness, teamwork and discipline within the branch in order to succeed. At the end of the week they attended a traditional passing out parade; of their achievement Lt Farrell stated "the branch is vitally important in developing health and fitness within the sea cadets, it's a branch which encourages anyone to join to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing. The qualifying course was very demanding however everyone should be very proud and honoured to attend the Royal Navys school of fitness it's a great facility to be able to utilise".

The marine cadets enjoyed some field training developing their map reading, team building and field craft skills in preparation for their field assessment.
