Best Cadet Award

Best Cadet Award

From the recent Zulu Summer Camp, LCpl Oliver was awarded best cadet from his troop with the following citation.

"Despite being a Lance Corporal, this individual has demonstrated professionalism and leadership one might expect from a Corporal or Cadet Sergeant, whether in camp, in the field or when helping less confident members of the troop revise topics they find difficult.

Throughout their time in 4 Troop, they have been a keen and disciplined member, particularly when assisting the section commander in the running of a section and cadet Sgt with the barracks routine. Their willingness to assist oppo’s, good humour in difficult and uncomfortable conditions and good standards of personal admin leads no doubt to this recommendation."

Congratulations to Lance Corporal Oliver on behalf of the whole ship's company of TS Salisbury.

Sailing Sucess at Southern Area Regatta

Sailing Sucess at Southern Area Regatta

Another fantastic day, this time in the Southern Area Sailing Regatta. We had three crews taking part who had previously qualified at the Wessex District Regatta. It was a little windy on the water today, so some of the racing had to be reduced and there were one or two capsizes along the way. Our Cadets coped with conditions extremely well and came away with great results;

1st – AC Jasmine – Open Pico Class

1st – LC Jasmine – Open Zest Class

3rd – OC Tamar and AC Matt - Junior Quest Class

Success at Southern Area Combined Regatta

Success at Southern Area Combined Regatta

Today was the first Southern Area Combined Regatta for 5 years. COVID restrictions and bad weather have prevented this competition in recent years, so it was a relief to be able to finally go to this event. It was worth the wait, we were in Poole Harbour for the first time for this event and what a fantastic day it was. Great venue, great set up and very well organised, even though it was a little blowy.

Having won at the Wessex District Regatta a few weeks ago, our winning teams all came home with medals, including a load of gold! The results are below;

1st - Rowing Boat Handling

1st - Junior Mixed Yole

1st - Open Mixed Yole

1st - Open Boy Yole

1st - Junior Girls T500

1st - Junior Boys T500

2nd - Open Boys T500

MOD Boscombe Down Families Day

MOD Boscombe Down Families Day

Yesterday we were at MOD Boscombe Down Family Fun Day. Lots were going on and the sun was out. Our Cadets were helping out spreading the word about Salisbury Sea Cadets and were also lucky to see some aircraft and fly pasts.

SUMMER SAILING

SUMMER SAILING

We were back at our second boating base at Spinnaker Sailing Club today. It was a lovely sunny day with a gentle breeze, perfect. We were sailing with a number of courses running from RYA Stage 1 up to RYA Seamanship Module. We also ran Sea Cadets Whale Island Boat Station windsurfing course with cadets and volunteers from Basingstoke, Warsash and Christchurch.
