Row-a-thon 20-04-13

Row-a-thon 20-04-13

Wow! What a truly oarsome day we've had, clocking up 100 boat miles of rowing for the TS Royalist replacement. We started at 0930, finishing at 1730 and we've safely taken around 60 people afloat today ranging from the age of 6 to 77yrs. A massive achievement by all of the cadets, staff, committee, supporters and friends and families. Well done for everyone's hard work today, I'm sure you will all sleep well.

We have recently been able to purchase much needed climbing equipment, all thanks to Marstons Employees Charity who donated £1054.

This was presented to the Unit in January by Colin Walton (pictured).

This would not have been possible without the help and support of Marstons Employees.

We would like to thank them for all their efforts.

To mark the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Shirley Royal British Legion Branch (founded in 1933) a service was held in St Peters Church in Shirley

Cadets from our Unit held a drum silent display at the church and the drums provided the centre-piece for the display of Standards.

Following the service the legion held presentations and speeches at their Head Quarters to which all those attending the service were invited.

A good day was had by all and congratulations go to the Shirley RBL on achieving their 80th year.

We are planning on helping raise these much needed funds for the New Ship Appeal.

On Saturday 20th April between 8am and 6pm Shirley Sea Cadets will be hosting a Row-a-thon event at Olton Mere.

We are aiming to row 100 miles, consisting of numerous teams of 5 per boat. This event is not only open to the Cadets, but family and friends are also very welcome to take part.

In aid of the TS Royalist appeal to raise money towards its replacement, the Cadet Corps are asking all units to take part in a row around the world on the weekend of 20th and 21st April.

The idea is that between us all we clock up enough miles equal to the circumference of the earth. As a unit we are organising an event at Olton Mere where between the cadets/staff and parents we manage to row 200 laps of Olton Mere.

For further details use the 'Contact Us' option above.

At the same time a team from Sea Cadets HQ will be rowing 100 miles from Abingdon to Tower Bridge in London.

The charity has worked hard over the last two years, already raising £4.2m of the £5.6million target but now we need your help in one last push, please help us by showing your support and making a vital contribution, whether small or large, to make sure thousands of cadets can keep sailing with Sea Cadets!
