Once again our unit marching band was recently asked to provide music to celebrate the passing out parade of the Liverpool University Royal Naval Unit. With this being the first event our band has done this year they were understandably nervous before going on, especially after setting the bar so high with our performance at this event last year. Ultimately however they had no need to be apprehensive as they delivered a stunning performance which showcased all of the new pieces that they have been working so hard to perfect over the past few months, and despite some of the core members of the band not being in attendance the members of staff and cadets who stepped in to fill their places did an admirable job of learning the routine in such a short space of time.

Everything our Royal Marine Cadets have learned throughout the past year was recently put to the test as they participated in their annual CATSEA assessment. They spent the weekend roughing it at Nesscliffe training camp as they were tested in all aspects of their training, including weapon drills, survival skills, and map reading. Unfortunately due to cadets being on exam leave our detachment was ungraded due to lack of numbers, however those who ran the event were keen to point out that this was the only reason for our grade and that our cadets were excellent in all other aspects. Whatever the result, we as a unit are very proud of the hard work we have seen our Royal Marine Cadets put in over the past year, and know that if they do the same over the year to come that in next year's assessment they'll get the result that they deserve.

For the first time since last year, our whole unit recently went down to Knowsley boating station for a weekend of fun filled water activities. Despite the weather being less than ideal on the Saturday, our cadets soldiered through and their efforts were rewarded on Sunday and Monday with weather that was much nicer. During the day our cadets did either kayaking or rowing, and by the end of the trip had either received their first qualifications or were well on their way to receiving their next one. Despite being exhausted after a very long day, in the evenings our cadets somehow found the energy to have a sunset barbecue and throw a onesie party!

Since the beginning of this years new boating season, we have started our weekly trips to Liverpool Watersport Centre to do activities such as sailing, kayaking, and powerboating. Pictured are some of our cadets brushing up on their sailing skills in our RS Feva in anticipation of the upcoming RYA sailing academy over the next four weeks, during which they will have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications as well as gain valuable experience on the water. As well as formal courses to gain qualifications our cadets are looking forward to doing plenty of recreational boating using our unit's own boats which include a fleet of twelve kayaks and four sailing dinghys, meaning they shouldn't have any excuse to be bored this summer!

After weeks of preparation our unit was recently visited by district officers, area officers, and, most importantly, the friends and family of our cadets for our official RNP inspection. Guests were granted a rare glimpse into the inner workings of our unit as cadets performed three short presentations that they had worked hard to plan and execute themselves with little input from our staff; highlights included learning how to use a buoyancy aid and rig a sailing dinghy, as well as a very animated performance of a naval battle by our Royal Marine Cadets. Feedback we received from the inspecting officers was overwhelmingly positive and we would like to thank everybody who's efforts throughout the past two years have made this possible.
