Harry Tutt and Oscar Reyes made use of the half term holiday to go power boating and gain RYA qualifications. Both completed three days to Royal Victoria Dock to gain RYA Level 1 and Level 2 in displacement boats. Next will be to attend further training and qualify in planing craft such as RIB and Rigiflex.

Petty Officer Cadet Benjamin Wood attended the Southwark Association Reception at Southwark Council where was presented with the Deputy Lieutenant's Certificate by the Deputy Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Sunil Chopra and the Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Southwark, Mrs Jenny Bianco.

SOUTH DOWNS EXPEDITION

Over a windy weekend Cadet First Class Oscar Reyes completed a campcraft course based at Crowborough Camp while Able Cadet Alfie Button travelled to the South Downs to take part in his Duke of Edinburgh Award bronze expedition. Included in the route was Buster Hill. Butser Hill is a chalk hill and one of the highest points in Hampshire. It is also the highest point on the chalk ridge of the South Downs and the second highest point in the South Downs National Park. Although only 271 metres (889’) high it qualifies as one of England's Marilyns. It is located within the borders of the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, situated about three miles south of the historic market town of Petersfield.

Congratulations to Able Cadet Alfie Button who was awarded T.S. Cossack Cadet of the Year 2013 by The Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers. The certificate was presented by the Master, Eur Ing D W Kent, at the Admission Court Dinner on Thursday 24 October 2013, where AC Button also had the honour of proposing "The Immortal Memory".

In addition, TS Cossack mounted a carpet guard for the Admission Court Dinner, which was attended by distinguished guests including the principal guest, Sir Peter Williams, CBE, FRS, and members of the Armed Forces who were also recipients of awards.

NATIONAL TRAFALGAR DAY PARADE 2013

Southwark unit were out in force to support the National Trafalgar Day Parade held in Trafalgar Square. As the local Sea Cadet unit it is important to have TS Cossack SCC cadets involved and they were on-hand to explain the background of the occasion and to promote the Corps to the assemble spectators. Afterwards the band and platoons marched up the Mall and back to Wellington Barracks for the VIP's address.
