Able Cadet Alfie Button organised this year's five-a-side football team for the District competition against teams from Croydon, Beckenham, Chislehurst & Sidcup, Greenwich, Merton, Sutton and Tooting. The team put together a good performance, and although did not qualify for the Area event, had some high-scoring victories, with AC Button also the team's top goal scorer.

The London Boat Show is held each January at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London. It is a large event, now in its 60th year, which uses one of ExCeL's 32,500 square metre halls. It is organised by National Boat Shows, which is a subsidiary of the British Marine Federation, the trade association for the UK boating industry.

The Show features a wide range of boats, boating equipment and clothing with interactive sections and feature attractions devoted to boating. There is also a display of tall boats and other vessels in the Royal Victoria Dock immediately outside the exhibition centre.

Southwark cadets were at the show on Sunday, 12 January 2014, for the first weekend activity of the year. In particular, they had a fun and enjoyable time in the watersports pool experiencing zorbing and kayaking.

There were celebrities galore when Southwark and Sutton cadets were involved in filming for Text Santa. Drumming on the open upper deck of a London Routemaster bus on WaterlooBridge was followed by further filming outside the South Bank Centre and National Theatre before completing in the studio at ITV Centre. Among those present were Phillip Schofield, Robbie Williams and Ant & Dec.

A trip to Lee Valley Ice Rink provided a completely different activity before the Christmas break.

For the last boating session of 2013, TS Cossack went rowing and powerboating at Clapton & Hackey Unit on the River Lea.

Cadets practiced rowing manoeuvres as well as experiencing powerboating in a viking and the unit's RIB.

We are looking forward to boating again in the new year!
