THE GLADSTONE LIBRARY

THE GLADSTONE LIBRARY

The services of Petty Officer Cadet Ben Wood are highly regarded. This week he was requested to pipe aboard the Captain of HMS President (formerly HMS Saxifrage, started life as a Flower Class anti-submarine Q-ship completed in 1918) Thev venue was The Gladstone Library now part of the Royal Hoseguards Hotel. The library has been painstakingly restored to its former Victorian splendour. With 30,000 perfect replica books lining the shelves, it’s just as the great Prime Minister would have remembered it: the magnificent tiled pillars and fireplaces, high ceilings and glittering chandeliers are all original features. The gantry, which provided access to the upper levels, is now used as a minstrels’ gallery.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 Planing

RYA Powerboat Level 2 Planing

Leading Cadet J McBride was at the Royal Victoria Docks Boat Station over the weekend completing the nationally recognised RYA Powerboat Level 2 course, with Planing endorsement.

He really enjoyed the course, and experienced driving a RIB, Jaffa, and Champ. Some memorable moments for him include speeding off in the Jaffa to empty the boat of water, and in the RIB by the ExCeL Exhibition Centre!

Congratulations!

FIVE IN A ROW FOR TS COSSACK

FIVE IN A ROW FOR TS COSSACK

Well done!

It's official, five in a row for Southwark.

Your hard work has been recognised with the top SCC efficiency award, a burgee ...

2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and now 2013.

Captain Sea Cadets' Comments:Well done TS Cossack on another strong year. You are clearly a great example of what can be achieved with minimal resources, and many other larger units would do well to follow your example. Your CO works very hard, and I'm sure that in the coming year all at the unit can work equally as hard to make sure you stay among the leading units in the country. Well done on another well deserved burgee. BZ!

2013 LONDON MARATHON

2013 LONDON MARATHON

Southwark Sea Cadet Unit was out in force at Surrey Docks Quebec Way 9 mile Customer Service Point administering freshly bottled spring water to the runners. Not only did they take charge of the vital supplies of liquid gold but also completed other tasks with brush and shovel to clean up afterwards. Once again a truly community involvement but next year there will be even more interest as our very own Petty Officer Cadet Callum Malone is determined to participate and raise thousands for the benefit of TS Cossack.
