HMS Cossack Association 2013

HMS Cossack Association 2013

TS Cossack, together with TS Bulwark (Clapton and Hackney Unit) traveled to the south coast to attend and support the HMS Cossack Association Dinner and Parade on 13-14 April 2013.

Cadets visited HMS Excellent during this weekend and stayed onboard HMS Bristol.

On 13 April 2013, Cdt 1st T Wood represented TS Cossack at the HMS Cossack Association Dinner, where he piped the dinner call alongside an HMS Cossack veteran. He enjoyed a formal dinner, sitting on the top table, where he dined with some Norweigian members of the association, who had connections with the Altmark incident during the Second World War.

At the end of the dinner, Cdt 1st T Wood was presented with the Admiral Vian Award, for being the most improved cadet at TS Cossack, by Admiral Sir James Eberle, President of the HMS Cossack Association.

The following day, 14 April 2013, all cadets participated in the HMS Cossack Association Parade, with Cdt 1st H Tutt carrying the standard alongside a HMS Cossack veteran. TS Cossack provided a small marching band, and PO Cdt B Wood led the platoon for the march past. The salute was taken by Sir James who then spoke to the cadets individually.

All cadets were a credit to their units, and thank you again to TS Bulwark for their support in this event.

EASTER CAMP

EASTER CAMP

For two cadets it was off to Easter Camp at HMS Bristol providing a range of opportunities including powerboating, sailing, canoeing and band. Once a guardian of the Fleet against air attack and a veteran of the Falklands War, HMS Bristol is now a training and accommodation ship in Portsmouth Harbour.  Designed to defend a class of aircraft carriers which were never built, HMS Bristol was the only Type 82 destroyer ever built for the Royal Navy. She served her nation for 20 years – and saw action in the Falklands in 1982 – in an air defence/command ship role before she was decommissioned in 1991. Two years later she was converted into a training and accommodation ship to replace HMS Kent. Today, recently refitted, she is moored at the tip of Whale Island in Portsmouth Harbour. Hosting up to 17,000 visitors, including Sea Cadets, annually for 50 weeks a year, she provides the closest thing to a sea-going experience without leaving port.

Southwark Sea Cadets was at the London International Dive Show at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre, London on Saturday, 23 March 2013.

After a dive briefing, our cadets had the opportunity to do a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, and had an enjoyable time breathing and swimming underwater.

Time was spent seeing the different stands from around the world, from Egypt, Thailand and the Galapagos Islands.

A fun afternoon was had when our cadets tried the 'Go Dive' challenge, and were rewarded with marine life toys.
