We are sad to announce the death of the First Lieutenant, Petty Officer Tony Close. PO Close will be an enormous miss at the unit, both with the cadets and the staff.

Cadets and staff from the unit contributed to make sure that the Sea Cadet Fest was a great success when it was held over the weekend of 31st August/1st September. Cadets from the 18 Tyne Tees units showed off their skills at drill, band, PT, hornpipe, seamanship and first aid to name but a few. Thanks to all the Mighty G who turned up over the weekend.
The 2013 Sea Cadet Fest will take place at intu MetroCentre, Gateshead over the weekend of August 31st- September 1st.
Cadets from across the region will be out in force to raise the profile of the Sea Cadets in the North East and to recruit some new members into the corps.
Events over the weekend include Drill, hornpipe and band arena displays along with static interactive stalls such as cooking, seamanship and boat work.
Why not come along and see us in action? Both days begin with a Colours ceremony and the cadets will be performing with the Metro Gnomes throughout the weekend
Following victory in the district rowing handling contest; a first for the unit- our cadets went to Dundee to represent Northumberland district at the Area boat handling, and by 1.5 points, beat Grampian district into second place, the first time in twelve years that the trophy has been wrestled away from Stonehaven unit. Well done to the 5 girls in a boat!!
The order has been placed for the new tall ship to replace our current flagship; TS Royalist!
Northern Area as a whole raised £25,24 towards the cost of the replacement. Northern Area led the way in fundraising for this appeal and we are by far the largest contributing area.
If the combined efforts of Northumberland and Tyne South districts fundraising was taken as a separate sum, we would have raised more money than the whole of London area and been just shy of North West area.
Well done and thank you to everyone who contributed to the new ship appeal
