Gosforth Sea Cadets’ have won The Vigilant Trophy for 2012.  This award is made annually to the best overall Unit visiting SCTC Raleigh on a Unit Camp.  The nomination was endorsed by all the centre’s staff.  The Commanding Officer of SCTC Raleigh will present the award to the unit in the summer.

The Law Society made a donation of almost £1000 to the New Ship Appeal- the campaign running to raise funds to replace the Offshore sailing ship, TS Royalist. A cheque was handed over on behalf of the Law Society to the Commanding Officer, S/Lt Healy

The unit has been able to fully replace its heads thanks to donations from local business Wolsley. Two representatives of the company visited the unit in early February in order to see just how we had put their money to good use.

Thanks to the all afternoon digging efforts of the staff and UMT of the unit, the parade square made a great canvas on which to create a rather cold version of out namesake, HMS Dauntless. The Juniors, assisted by a very excited PO Davies crafted the ship in a couple of hours, even remembering to top off her main mast with the distinctive Sampson radar- well done guys!!

The unit was contacted by the crew of our affiliated Warship, HMS Dauntless- to see if we were able to assist with the Christmas Party of the RVI Children’s Ward which was being held at HMS Calliope. The cadets and staff were more than happy to assist and helped to deliver an excellent days entertainment for the sick children and their parents. Santa (AKA PO (CIS) Scanlon of HMS Dauntless) was extremely grateful for the efforts of the Dauntless cadets commenting that it couldn’t have been achieved without our help.
