Well done to all cadets involved.

Thank you to all staff from both units who helped out, and the Cadet Sergeants who volunteered to come along and help teach.

Following closely on the heels of the Sea Cadet Summer Camp, this week it was the turn of the Royal Marines Cadets whose annual Summer Camp was held at Beckingham. The camp involved a day of map reading and night navigation, and three day field exercise, and a sports day which included Clay Pigeon Shooting and a climbing wall. This was also the first camp to include a Cadet Cpls and Sgts Mess as a token of appreciation for senior cadets.

Three cadets from Luton took part, each of them forming part of the Rifle Troops. Their three day exercise includes a 3 mile march out to the field, harbour drills, ambushes, recce patrols, observation posts, most of which involved movement at night.

The annual Sea Cadet Summer Camp was held aboard HMS Bristol (pictured), Portsmouth this week. The event invites cadets from all 61 units of Eastern Area to complete various courses both on and off the water.

A total of 9 cadets from Luton attended the event, earning qualifications from Rowing Coxswain to 3rd Class Cook/Steward, from 1st Class Seamanship to 2nd Class Marine Engineering. Well done to all 9 cadets who took part, all of whom gained at least one qualification.

Well done also to A/PO(SCC) Stevens who was an assistant instructor on the 3rd and 2nd Class Seamanship course, from which he gained his Core Seamanship Module - one step nearer to PO(SCC). Luton was, as always, led by its Commanding Officer, CPO(SCC) Brogan, who drove the safety boat covering the waterborne activities.

This weekend was the Easter Area Regatta at Girton Sailing Club near Newark. Six cadets from Luton were chosen to represent Bedfordshire district at the competition. POC Newell, POC Frost, OC Esser, Cdt Loveland and Cdt Esser were all entered into the paddelsport competition, completing Sprints and Time-Trials between them as well as the experimental new “Cross-Stream Challenge”. MC1 Willis also represented the District in the Junior Boys Rowing competition, and let's not forgot that Luton's Commanding Officer, CPO (SCC) Brogan was also on the water, running himself on the safety boat. Despite the incredibly hot weather, (temperatures hit 30 degrees) the cadets dug deep, and earned the rewards. Bedfordshire District won the paddlesport entry, and came runner up in the overall competition, narrowly missing out to Lincolnshire. Luton's paddlers can now look forward to representing Eastern Area in the National Regatta at London's Excel Centre.
