ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday 17 June 2015
ALL WELCOME!!!
Cadets travelled to Poole for a tour of the Royal National Lifeboat institute national college. The purpose of RNLI College is to provide a maritime training centre of excellence for lifesavers. With its state-of-the-art training facilities, including an integrated Sea Survival Centre, the college is invaluable to the training and development of lifeboat crew members and lifeguards from around the UK and Republic of Ireland. And the day was complete with a trip to the beach on the Dorset coast.
-
Cadets were out in force to take part in London Southern Combined Regatta held at Royal Victoria Dock Boating Station.
Winners on the day include4d Harry Tutt in the open kayak and the boys open rowing crew with OC Callum Peek as coxswain.
Now it's full ahead preparing for the London Area Regatta to be held on Saturday 4 July 2015.
PO J McBride together with Paige Prescod and Katherine East attended a remembrance service at Brompton Cemetery for a World War 1 Navy flyer who received the Victoria Cross for his part in the conflict. They were supported by members of RNR London based at HMS President.
Flight Sub Lieutenant Reginald Warneford, the first naval aviator to be awarded the Victoria Cross, was honoured today, a hundred years after his daring mile-high, moonlight dual with a German airship over Ghent, Belgium on 7 June 1915 when he attacked and completely destroyed the Zeppelin LZ37 in mid-air. Almost immediately King George V awarded him the Victoria Cross. The threat to London from the German airships was a cause of grave concern and Warneford was acclaimed as a national hero.
