iIt was off to Folkestone for the Bank Holiday weekend to take part in the ATC Spitfire March. Camping at St Martins Plane Dry Training Area at Dibgate it was a difficult choice as whether to enter for 10, 25 or 40 km. But 'Teddy' had no hesitation in going for the 25 mile option. Well done to all who completed, the majority before midnight.

GOING OFFSHORE

Going offshore was nothing new to Oscar Reyes as he had previously spent time aboard TS Royalist and TS John Jerwood. For yet another unique experience he travelled to Dartmouth to join TS Jack Petchey and then passage to Cherbourg returning to London via Eurostar.

The ship allows young people to experience sea training on board a modern power vessel. They learn navigation, bridge team duties, seamanship, deck work, engineering, cooking/ stewarding plus experience all the duties needed to operate a vessel at sea. All of this takes place on the coastal waters of the UK and Europe. The vessel is shown here at the naming ceremony alongside HMS President.

In May a party of Southwark cadets were pleased to be able to attend the Mayor of London Community Reception at City Hall.

Mayor Boris Johnson (and now also MP) was present to deliver a speech and to meet all of the assembled guests.

Soviet Memorial Trust Fund - Victory Day

Cadets from Southwark, Greenwich and City of London units joined former Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Jonathan Holloway, for the Soviet Memorial Trust Fund Act of Remembrance to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Allied Victory over Fascism held at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park adjacent to the Imperial War Museum. The Soviet War Memorial was installed in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park 16 years ago in memory of the 27 million citizens of the former Soviet Union killed during World War II. The many distinguished guests attending included Admiral The Rt Hon Lord West.
