HMS COSSACK ASSOCIATION VIAN AWARD

HMS COSSACK ASSOCIATION VIAN AWARD

Callum Peek attended the HMS Cossack association annual reunion at the Royal Beach Hotel, Southsea. Callum was there to represent TS Cossack SCC and to receive the Vian Award in recognition of his service with Southwark unit.

Admiral Philip Vian made his name as one of the most daring British naval commanders of the Second World War early in 1940 as the captain of the destroyer Cossack during the Altmark incident, before going on to hold high rank in the Mediterranean, during Operation Overlord and in the Far East.

It is a great honour to receive an award in memory of such an outstanding naval hero.

EASTER CAMP

EASTER CAMP

It was off to Portsmouth for 3 Southwark cadets during the Easter period to take part in London Southern Easter Camp. Accommodated aboard HMS Bristol that was much to choose from including sailing, power, camping, band and first aid.

Once a guardian of the Fleet against air attack and a veteran of the Falklands War, HMS Bristol is now a training and accommodation ship in Portsmouth Harbour. Designed to defend a class of aircraft carriers which were never built, HMS Bristol was the only Type 82 destroyer ever built for the Royal Navy. She served her nation for 20 years – and saw action in the Falklands in 1982 – in an air defence/command ship role before she was decommissioned in 1991.
