Mercia Success at the South West Area Rowing...

Excellent result once again at the South West Area Rowing Regatta held at TS Adventure, Bristol.

Gold for both the Open Girls Rowing (AC's Fox, Blizzard, Blizzard, Rushton and Jones) and Open Boys Yole (AC Nash), both now going on to represent the South West Area at the National competition at the Excel Centre, London Docklands on Saturday 10th September.

Sheer grit and determination got them through to win comfortably and with the competition now changed to time rather than first past the post the winners were kept in suspense to the very last minute.

Junior Boys Trinity came 6th and Sail Boathandling 4th, first time out or both teams at this level and not the last, excellent effort.

A very happy and proud OIC as well as the District Officer over the moon with the Mercia District 2nd overall result. There will be lots of hard training over the next few weeks to prepare for the National competition, and we will be there to cheer you on.

Making History for the Mercia District at...

A very special evening was held on the evening of 24th May 2016 in recognition of the effort and progress made so far this year of all the Sea Cadets attending Birmingham Sherbourne.

Over 60 awards were presented by the Officer In Charge - Acting Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Mark Lane RNR and Unit Chaplain Christopher Thomas RNR to almost all of the 38 Cadets and Junior Cadets who attended.

The evening culminated in the presentation by Mr John Johnson-Allen, Chairman of the Institute of Seamanship to Able Cadet Hannah, with the National Award for Seamanship.  Able Cadet Hannah was chosen by the Sea Cadet Corps as the best Cadet in the whole of the United Kingdom for Excellence in Seamanship, this is a considerable achievement and one of which we are very proud.

AC Hannah was awarded with the Silver Salver which will take pride of place at Birmingham Sherbourne and Honorary Membership of the Institute of Seamanship both for 1 year, plus £35 of book tokens to spend as she chooses.

This is the first time in the 9 year history of the award that it has been presented to a Cadet from the Mercia District.

Well done AC Hannah, very proud indeed!
