HMS St Albans recommissioning

HMS St Albans recommissioning

Today Dunstable Sea Cadets had the pleasure to attend HMS St Albans recommissioning.

There was a fantastic ceremony followed by a tour of the ship.

Spectacular day to remember for all staff and cadets involved.

Houghton Regis Town Mayor's Civic service

Houghton Regis Town Mayor's Civic service

Another great afternoon for Dunstable Sea Cadets, as they attended Houghton Regis Town Mayor's Civic service.

Everyone was very smart as they lined the path for the entrance of the VIPS. Following the service, there were some photos before we all retired to All Saints View for refreshments. As part of the history of Houghton Regis, the mayor, in a ceremony dating back centuries, presented both the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire and the Deputy Lieutenant with jars of honey.

Annual Awards Night

Annual Awards Night

Last night we held our annual awards night to celebrate the achievements of the cadets over the previous year.

This was attended by HM Lord-Lieutenant Susan Lousada - the King's representative for Bedfordshire, Councillor Louise O'Riordan as Deputy Mayor for Dunstable, as well as past mayors and mayoresses, Councillors and Don't Let Dunstable Die, all of whom took part in presenting the awards.

Most of the awards are based on activities or qualifications achieved by the cadets over the previous year, but some of them are only voted for by the cadets themselves.

We are proud of all of the cadets for their commitment and for what they have achieved over the year, whether you received an award last night or not. Thank you to the parents and carers whose support makes this possible; it was great to see so many of you last night.

Lastly, a big thank you to the staff and the UMT, without who we would not be able to deliver the training and support the events that we do.

Dunstable Town Mayor's Civic Service

Good turn out this afternoon for Dunstable Town Mayor's Civic Service at Priory Church. Looking very smart.

Sadly, you did fail the Mayor's challenge to clear all the biscuits and cakes afterwards 😁

4th place in National Drill and Piping...

4th place in National Drill and Piping...

Dunstable Colour Party competed in the National Drill and Piping competition at HMS Raleigh on 29th April 2017. Unfortunately this time the competition proved too strong, but we did pick up 4th place in the country.
It has been a long road from when we started on 24th August 2016. It started as a opportunity to try something different and along the way has developed teamwork and commitment. The team, both cadets and staff, have dedicated many hours over the past 8 months as we reached the pinnacle of the National competition.
For some, it was the last opportunity to reach a National competition as a cadet, for others, the first, with the potential for future attempts.
Along the way, we have generated a bit of a buzz in the unit. Yes, its been hard work, but worth every minute.
It was the first time in over 23 years that the unit had competed in a competition at national level.
I hope everyone has enjoyed the experience and gained some great memories along the way, I know I have. It has been a great achievement in your first year as a colour party.
So once again, extremely well done, from a very proud 1st Lieutenant.
