ANNUAL STREET COLLECTION AND FLAG DAY 2012

'BRAVO ZULU' to all cadets and adult volunteers who helped with this years events. Volunteers were out collecting on 9 out of 11 days in June some for up to 10 hours in a single session. These funds are essential to cover general running expenses such as water, telephone and electric. The minibus alone involves expenditure of £750 (insurance), £160 (road tax), £300 (service and MOT) and fuel at over £100 per tank. So you can imagine how important these fund raising initiatives are.

Cadets were pleased to assist at the WCSIM Summer Banquet held on 14 June 2012 at Fishmongers Hall. Those involved provided a Carpet Guard with LC Ben Wood piping the Master and guests as they entered the dining hall.

During the Diamond Jubilee celebrations The Queen joined 700 guests for a celebratory Diamond Jubilee lunch at Westminster Hall hosted by the Livery. The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess ofCambridgeand Prince Harry also attended the meal.LocalSeaCadets Leading Cadet Benjamin Wood and Ordinary Cadet Karol Andino attended as guests of the Scientific Instrument Makers and were seated on a table adjacent to that of Her Majesty the Queen. As an additional bonus to remember for life both could be clearly seen on BBC TV News coverage as the Queen listened to the opening address. TS Cossack’s Leading Cadet Benjamin Wood is pictured here two days earlier preparing for the Jubilee River Pageant during which the Southwark crew was made up of Petty Officer George Whitfield (Coxswain), Joshua McBride (Navigator), and Alfie Button in addition to Ben himself. Even though all are fromCentral Londonall were excited at the chance to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity. The crew, together with Wandsworth cadets, were interviewed for BBC Newsround and Joshua appeared during the days TV coverage.  

 

DIAMOND JUBILEE PAGEANT

DIAMOND JUBILEE PAGEANT

A fleet of small vessels from the Sea Cadet Corps passes by the London Eye during the pageant. Crews from around the UK travelled to London to man the boats and lead the Pageant carrying flags of the Commonwealth Nations.

 Southwark Cadets, Ben Wood, Callum Malone, Josh McBride and Alfie Button navigated the Southwark Unit boat throughout the journey from Putney to Greenwich.

 Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh were onboard the Royal Barge, the Spirit of Chartwell with several other members of the Royal Family to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at the River Pageant on the Thames River.

 What an experience and what a privilege ... and an excellent example of the calibre of cadets from TS Cossack SCC.
